Tom Petty reportedly hospitalized after cardiac arrest

Tom Petty, one of the bestselling music artists of the modern age whose recent tour just wrapped up last week in Los Angeles, was hospitalized overnight , TMZ reported Monday. He is 66.

TMZ said Petty was found unresponsive and though emergency responders got a pulse, he had no brain activity and was removed from life support at the hospital. An email to Petty’s music agent was not immediately returned.

Tom Petty’s career began proper in the 1970s with Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, whose early hits included “Listen to Her Heart” and “Here Comes My Girl.” In the ’80s he played with George Harrison, Bob Dylan, Roy Orbison and Jeff Lyne in the Traveling Wilburys but maintained his successful solo career, released the ubiquitous “Free Fallin'” in 1989.
